A Wisconsin native, Matthew Onstad has recently been appointed to the Francis Neiswanger Memorial Principal Trumpet chair in the Quad City Symphony Orchestra. Matthew is currently pursuing his Master of Music degree in Trumpet Performance at the University of Wisconsin-Madison Mead Witter School of Music under the tutelage of John Aley. Matthew serves the UW department of music as a Project Assistant performing with the Wisconsin Brass Quintet, a faculty ensemble-in-residence. Matthew has received many awards while at UW, including winning the Mead Witter School of Music Concerto Competition and the James R. Smith Orchestra Award for leadership and success. Aside from his duties with the Wisconsin Brass Quintet, Matthew has been a member of the 132nd US Army National Guard Band since 2012, and has performed with the Madison and Oshkosh Symphony Orchestras. Matthew received his B.M. at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh where he studied under Dr. Marty Robinson and Dr. Robert Levy.
