Gilson Da Silva is a native of Itutinga, Brazil. He is currently working toward his Doctor of Musical Arts degree in trumpet performance at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He was especially drawn to UW-Madison by the opportunity to study with Professor Jean Laurenz and play in the Wisconsin Brass Quintet.

Prior to UW-Madison, Gilson graduated with a master’s degree in trumpet performance from the University of North Dakota, under the guidance of Dr. Ronnie Ingle. He was a member of the UND Trumpet Ensemble, one of the trumpet ensembles selected to compete in the live round of the 2018 National Trumpet Competition at the University of North Texas.

 Gilson also holds a degree in trumpet performance from the Federal University of Minas Gerais, Brazil. During his undergraduate studies, he had the opportunity to participate in a study abroad program at the School of Music and Performing Arts in Porto, Portugal, studying with Professor Kevin Waldron.
